DEMA FTIK Successfully Holds Mental Health Seminar

Tulungagung, April 24, 2025 – As a form of concern for mental health issues in higher education, DEMA FTIK UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung successfully held a Mental Health Seminar on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Held in the Hall of the Saifuddin Zuhri Building, this event carried the theme “From Trauma to Recovery: Uncovering Depression Due to Sexual Violence in the World of Higher Education.” The seminar was officially opened with remarks from the Chairperson of the Committee, Chairperson of DEMA FTIK 2025, and representatives of the FTIK dean, all of whom emphasized the importance of building a safe, aware, and supportive campus environment for the recovery of victims of sexual violence.

The first material was delivered by Evi Tunjung Fitriani, S.Kep., Ners., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.J, who discussed the Social Stigma and Culture of Silence in the Campus Environment. she highlighted how social and cultural norms in society often make victims of sexual violence choose to remain silent, even blaming themselves. Evi invited the audience to dare to break the culture of silence and create a safe space in the academic environment.

The next session was continued by dr. Predito Prihantoro, Sp.KJ with the material on the Mental Recovery Process and the Role of the Campus Environment. In her presentation, dr. Predita explained that emotional and social support play a very important role in the recovery process for victims. She emphasized the importance of the role of peers, student organizations, and lecturers in creating an empathetic and non-judgmental campus atmosphere. The last material was delivered by dr. Cinta Ayu Abutari, Sp.And, who reviewed the Impact of Sexual Violence on Sexual and Reproductive Health, she explained that trauma not only attacks the mind, but also affects physical health, such as hormonal disorders and reproductive systems that are disrupted due to prolonged psychological pressure.

In closing, participants were invited to take part in the Kahoot educational game which was greeted enthusiastically. After the question and answer session, the seminar was closed with the presentation of certificates and prizes to the best speakers and participants, then ended with a group photo. This activity is an important momentum to encourage the creation of a safe campus that sides with victims.
